Founded in the late 1990s by the esteemed Reverend William A. Lawson, Together for Good Ministries, a nonprofit arm of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, has helped hundreds of individuals escape homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and poverty. Each year, our transitional housing and support services help to restore the lives of up to 16 single formerly homeless mothers and their children, and nearly 10 seniors at increased risk of homelessness.
Serving a mission to positively impact the lives of individuals and families suffering from socioeconomic despair and deprivation in Houston’s historic Third Ward community, we provide vital services and resources needed to build and revitalize our community for this generation, and for generations to come. This is accomplished through two district programs: a transitional housing program for formerly homeless single mothers with up to two children, and a permanent housing residency for seniors, ages 55 and over. In tandem, these programs work to provide a stable foundation for our residents to rebuild their lives from chronic homelessness and cyclical poverty.
We also collaborate with several community partners to meet increased client needs for supportive services such as mental health counseling, financial education, and childcare and support. Beyond our base funding from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, Together for Good is working to develop other revenue streams that will supply ongoing support and to promote financial sustainability.
